Mattress Warrantys Explained

So, what is a mattress warranty? What does it mean to have a warranty and how can it be used? What are the normal limits of a mattress warranty?

A warranty helps protect you in the event there is a manufacturer's defect in your new mattress. Essentially, a warranty is a contract whereby the manufacturer agrees to replace or repair a mattress if the product - within a specified time frame - is found to have flaws in design, materials, or construction. It is worth noting that, industry-wide in the United States, less than 1% of mattresses are returned due to warranty failures. Also, industry studys have shown that most warranty problems are obvious to the consumer very quickly - usually within the first year of use.

A mattresses may be sold with no warranty, or, have a warranty as long as 20 years (or more). Since study show that even the highest quality mattresses need to be replaced every 8 to 10 years, a ten year warranty is often viewed as a premium warranty.

Mattress warrantys may be "full warrantys", or, "pro-rated warrantys" (see explanation further down this page).

Corsicana, as well as other manufacturers, reserve the right to inspect your mattress and determine whether or not they feel your warranty claim is related to a manufacturing defect.

What does a warranty cover?

Again, a mattress warranty covers legitimate manufacturing and/or design flaws.

What isn't covered by my warranty?

The following conditions are not covered by a mattress warranty:

  • Reduced comfort/quality of sleep, over time, due to normal wear and tear
  • Damage cause by placing a mattress on an improper foundation or frame
  • Damage caused by the consumer (ripped bedding, water-damaged bedding, etc.)
Things that may void your warranty

Please note thats some manufacturer's may refuse to honor a mattress warranty if one, or more, of the following condition(s) are present:
  • If a mattress is significantly stained and/or soiled (some manufacturers require that a mattress pad be used or the warranty is void)
  • The customer has no reciept
  • The law tags have been removed
Full warranty versus a Pro-rated Warranty

A mattress sold with a "full warranty" will be replaced, at virtually no charge, for the complete duration of the warranty period (if a manufacturer's defect is discovered). A mattress sold with a pro-rated warranty typically means that a mattress will be replaced, at no charge, for the first year. Thereafter, the value of the mattress warranty diminishes in increments as determined by the overall length of the warranty. In other words, a mattress with a 10-year pro-rated warranty would require that the customer pay one-tenth of the mattresses value if there was a warranty problem in the second year of use.
